Podcasts

Simple Spanish Podcast, Tofu, Tattoos & Talk, and Superchévere Podcast, were born from the single most common problem that I have found in my teaching experience:  “Where can I find good-quality study material at my level that comes with transcripts?” After all, the secret to reaching more advanced levels in a language is to spend as much time as possible with interesting, motivating content in the language. However, not only is most authentic material far too advanced, it is almost impossible to find interesting material that comes with a transcript, so you can listen and read at the same time.
Consequently, most learners stop listening to the language they are trying to learn, and fluency, of course, never gets any closer. Hope you enjoy the journey!

I am a big fan of Dani’s podcasts which I have been listening to over the last 18 months or so. I started with the beginners podcast, ‘Simple Spanish Podcast’ which is great for those starting to learn Spanish and I still find many nuggets of useful information in them (asking questions, ordering food, expressing opinions, etc). These episodes are not too long and contain both English and Spanish so those new to the language can easily follow what is happening.

Tofu, Tattoos and Talk’ is for intermediate and more advanced Spanish learners. These are, as the name implies, not aimed at beginners. I found these progressively more accessible after about a year as a language learner. The vocabulary level and dialogue speed are definitely more challenging than the beginner episodes but I think they are excellent once you are at, or at least approaching, a lower intermediate level. The episodes are longer in duration (10 minutes roughly) as you would expect for this level. The topics are interesting and varied, ranging from discussions on the challenges of language learning, the history of the Olympic Games, social media, interviews with some of Dani’s students, and issues encountered in daily life.

The most recent addition to Dani’s weekly podcast menu, ‘Superchévere’, has quickly become my favourite! These cover Spanish idioms, stories, folklore, and other quirky language topics that occur in daily conversation. These are, I think, intermediate-level podcasts but are not too long (around 5 minutes or so). Like Tofu, Tattoos, and Talk, these podcasts are totally in Spanish.

I find PDFs of podcasts extremely useful and the first few podcast episodes include the transcripts for free. Thereafter the transcripts are available to those subscribing to Dani’s Patreon membership. The monthly cost is very reasonable and, in my opinion, well worth it. The transcripts also contain vocabulary lists so you don’t have to look up loads of new words. Dani is from Colombia so her podcasts are in Latin-American spanish.

Finding a podcast that suits you can be a long and frustrating process as there are so many available. Some work for you and some don’t and finding one you like requires much trial and error. For me, Dani’s podcasts work well. Although I do listen to other podcasts too, Dani’s are my first ‘port of call’ each week. There is something for students of all stages of their Spanish learning journey and the variety of topics keep things interesting and fun. I would highly recommend you give them a try!”

Dani is truly one of the most beautiful humans. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to see and speak to her each week – she has helped me immensely not only in my Spanish, but in my views and understanding of the world. She is kind and supportive, and an absolute pleasure to talk to. I look forward to our weekly classes, and am really glad that I can call her a close friend. In addition to classes, Dani has also produced a Podcast. I love to listen to the Podcast when I go for a run, or am driving to uni. It is easy to listen to with fantastic topics – afterwards I always read the transcript for any words I might have missed (which is really handy!). Since I began taking classes with Dani a year ago my Spanish has improved out of sight – we now spend the entire 45min class talking in Spanish when a year ago I knew and understood very little. She is amazing!! If you are looking for someone to help you with Spanish, Dani is the best person for it. She is literally the greatest. Thank you so much Dani!!"
